Bought the scales to weigh my luggage… now I’m a wreck!! That’ll teach me

I’m taking another flying trip back home next Monday and having done outrageous amounts of shopping I was worried how much I’d have to pay for the extra weight of luggage… so I went and bought the scales… just for that. Silly girl, wouldn’t you think, I’m moving end of the year and won’t need them and was living without them for 2 years just fine… but come the luggage problem… I just had to buy them. You know, I can live with having to pay for a few kilos extra on my luggage; it’s the NOT KNOWING HOW MUCH that I can’t bear. I hate the suspense of that moment when you have to put your suitcase on the check-in scales and then a number appears… and you hoped you would be fine… but then it says ‘2 kgs over’ and the whole drama  starts to unravel while you’re still standing there all miserable at the check-in ……they tell you to get out of the long check-in line and go pay for the extra weight at the special counter and then come back again and stand back in the line… and you loose all the good seats… and you sweat and curse… and you’re running late… and then the security line goes on for ever and you get all stressed… I HATE THAT. And I’m a pregnant woman now, I DON’T NEED THE STRESS…

… so I bought the scales.

I wanted to avoid stress by buying the scales. LOL. Stupid woman. Before I could weigh my luggage I had to weigh myself, right?

I gained 4 pounds in the first three months of my pregnancy – until beginning of October – and I gained almost another four in this last month alone!!!!! So… from July, I’m already almost 8 lbs heavier. And I’m not even showing much. I tell you, it’s not just the baby. I can’t really tell on the belly. But the arms feel flabbier. My face looks fuller. How much did you gain by the 4th month of your pregnancy? Most women probably even lose weight because of the sickness… not me…aaaah….

It’s not the baby wanting to eat all that pizza or half a loaf of bread in the evening, I’m quite certain. lmao… It is pregnancy related, for sure, I’m following a few pregnancy sites and apparently pregnancy increases the fluctuation of sugar in the bloor… hence the hungry feeling…hence the overeating. I must be extra careful to eat low GI foods to cope with that.

Marge, I should probably be eating the way you are to curb your diabetes. Any other diabetic buddies out there? Why not give me a few pointers… or better yet… a sample menu for a day… I’d much appreciate it. Nothing fussy, though. I have a policy of only dirtying one pot per one cooking session.

One pot, one plate, one fork, one spoon, one knife.

I must have missed the pregancy news! Congratulations! What a wonderful thing to happen to you. Well, I don’t have diabeties now but I did when I was pregnant and I had to watch all kinds of things I ate and if I ate too much sugar (which can be really easy to do) I was told to go for a 10 or 15 minute walk to bring it down and it would. Not saying this is a cure all but just a tip that could help you. I wish you all the best!

Now, you are further along than me, so that means you are supposed to have all the right answers for me by the time I get there! This is one of the things I’ve been stressing about since I found out that I’m pregnant! I haven’t been able to get much guidance from family, friend, or doctor! I’m hoping my doc will be a little insightful at the end of this month, but until then… not so much! I haven’t had any morning sickness. Just overall queasy feeling ALL the time, but my appetite isn’t very much yet. Just today, I noticed that I got really shakey late in the morning because I didn’t eat much for breakfast. Just toast and juice. So far, the only thing I notice that works is small frequent meals. I read that baby requires 500 additional calories per day. Kind of gives you a guideline about how much you should be eating. It’s way too easy to gain while pregnant and lots of extra gain isn’t very healthy!

Not much help from me, I’m afraid. I sailed through both pregnancies, gaining 8 pounds the first time and losing 2 pounds the second time. Doctors were shaking their heads that I was healthy because I was around 250 with each of them. Don’t worry about gaining some weight. I’ve had friends that have gained 60-80 pounds and it was gone within a year. And yes, they were in their mid-30’s! Have a great day and a safe trip.

I feel the way you do at the airport when I go grocery shopping with my 3 kids! LOL! Congrats on the baby! I am not a good one to give advice when it comes to eating while pregnant. I threw all caution to the wind all 3 of my pregnancies! I wish you all the best. Take care of yourself and that little one.

Hi Sweetie, Loved your comment on my blog. So happy for all your wonderful things coming up for you!! Just remember, once a mom always a mom. 3 of my 4 sons are having a hard time right now and that is the reason for my blues. Oldest,55, in a nursing home from closed head injury. second son’s wife is in the latter stages of cancer, third son, 50, just lost his job because of housing market being so lousy. His wife was in a terrible auto accident year and a half ago and is disabled. Pray for them. Now!! What I eat to keep my blood sugars even. I eat 3 small meals and 3 snacks a day. I avoid breads as much as possible, because I will eat and eat breadlike things. I don’t crave sweets, just the carbs. B- 3 eggwhites, 2 T. salsa, plum, 1 sl. whole wheat toast. Sn. hummus and carrot sticks L.- homemade veggie soup (I make it and freeze), 6 crackers. Sn- plum and handful pretzels D.- 1 1/2 c. broccoli with lite cheese (comes in frozen packet) 4 0z. broiled salmon (canned if I am exhausted and in a rush)1/2 c cottage sheese 1% fat. Sn. 1 carton yogurt. You may have to increase your calories with more fruit and veg. Very little cooking or dishes. Just the soup day when I make enough soup for several days. I am making barley soup today with broth, chopped onion, garlic, celery, carrot and barley. So good and filling on a cool day. I am trying pumpkin soup next week. Canned pumpkin + chopped vegs, a little chicken or veg. broth. Wishing you all the happiness in the world and know I love you and that wee one. You have been my guiding light in my recovery from grief. Remember the bad old days when I just wanted to throw up my hands and quit!! HUgs and kisses, Marge

Wow, I didn’t know you were pregnant!

    Congratulations!

Limiting white carbs tends to lower food cravings. I am not sure it works when you are pregnant, but I know it works in general.

Make sure you get your nutrients up front, because if you don’t get those, you will crave food until you do.

Am I the only one who thinks who cares about a few extra pounds when you are needing to feed yourself and your baby? You are doing well and I love that you are thinking about good food for you and the baby. Love ya M. Lidecka. And, thanks for making me smile…needed that ;)

    Have a great weekend. *hugs*
